    What happens to your file

    • Unlike the other tools here, this one has to receive your file: the work happens on a POLPROG server, not in your browser.
    • It is written to a directory named with 32 random characters, readable only by the process that made it, and never to a database.
    • Results are deleted after 30 minutes, and an unfinished job after two hours, whether or not you press the delete button.
    • No page, no filename and no password is ever written to a log. A failure is recorded as a code, not as your document.
    • Nothing uploaded here is kept for analytics, debugging or training anything.

    Is my file uploaded, and who can see it?

    Yes, it is uploaded, and this is the only tool on POLPROG that does. The work needs a real PDF engine, which cannot run in a browser tab. Your file goes to a directory named with 32 random characters that only the processing account can read, it is never put in a database, and it is never copied anywhere else. The job is tied to your browser session, so the directory name alone does not let anybody else reach it. Nothing uploaded here is kept for analytics, for debugging or for training anything.

    How long are my files kept?

    Results are deleted 30 minutes after they are produced, and a job that never finishes is removed after two hours. Both happen whether or not you do anything. The delete button on the results panel removes everything immediately instead of waiting, and it removes the uploads as well as the results.

    Will merging or splitting damage my document?

    No. Every page operation moves the page objects themselves rather than reprinting them, so text stays selectable text, vectors stay vectors, and links, form fields and annotations travel with the page they belong to. The bookmarks, document properties and XMP metadata are preserved too, and bookmarks pointing at pages you removed are pruned rather than left as entries that do nothing.

    What does compression actually do to quality?

    It re-encodes the images inside the document and rebuilds the file structure; it never touches text or vector artwork, which are already compact. "Keep quality" only rebuilds the structure. "Recommended" also lowers image resolution to about 150 DPI, which is invisible on screen and fine for most printing. "Smallest file" goes further and is best for something that will only be read on a screen. If the result would be no smaller than the original, the original is returned unchanged and the tool says so.

    Can you open a PDF I have lost the password for?

    No. "Remove password" takes a password you already know and writes out a copy without the encryption. It is for a document you are entitled to open and are tired of typing the password for. There is no recovery, no cracking and no bypass here, and there will not be.

    Why is there a file size limit?

    Because this runs on a shared server, and a PDF is an executable format that can ask for far more memory than its size suggests. The limits are 15 MB for the whole upload and 30 files at a time, with page and image ceilings behind them. A file that is refused costs a validation pass rather than a worker, which is what keeps the tool responsive for everybody else.
