What this analysis covers

Counted from your text, in your browser

Every number here is computed from the text in the box above, on this device. Nothing is uploaded or sent to an analytics service; your draft, length target and pinned version stay in this browser. Reading and speaking times are estimates from a stated rate, and readability scores are only shown for languages where the formula was actually validated.

FAQ

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole analysis runs in your browser: the counts, the frequency tables and the readability scores are all computed from the text in the editor on your own device. No text reaches a server; your draft, length target and pinned version are kept in this browser so a closed tab is not a lost paragraph.

How is a word counted?

By the browser's own Unicode segmentation (Intl.Segmenter) where it is available, so contractions like "don't" count as one word and languages written without spaces are segmented properly. Hyphenated compounds such as "state-of-the-art" are re-joined into a single word, which is what word processors do. Where the browser has no segmenter, a Unicode-aware fallback is used instead, and the tool says which one produced the count.

Where do the reading and speaking times come from?

From a fixed rate applied to the word count: 200 words per minute for silent reading and 130 for speaking aloud, both mid-points of the ranges usually cited for adult prose. They are conventions, not a measurement of any particular reader, and you can change both rates in the Overview panel to match your own.

Why is there no readability score for my language?

Because a readability formula is calibrated on a corpus in one language. Running Flesch Reading Ease on German reports a children's book as very difficult, simply because German words are longer. This tool applies only formulas that were validated for the language you select - English, Polish, German, Dutch, French, Spanish and Italian each get their own - and for every other language it reports the structural counts plus LIX, which is a cross-language measure, rather than inventing a grade.

Does keyword density affect search rankings?

Not in any way you should optimise for. Density is useful for noticing that you leaned on the same word nine times in four paragraphs, which is an editing observation, not a ranking lever. This tool reports the numbers and deliberately does not tell you to hit a target percentage.

How large a text can it handle?

The counts work on any text you can paste. Above 300,000 characters the frequency, phrase and readability tables are built from the first 300,000 so the page stays responsive while you keep typing, and a note above the tables says exactly how much was analysed. The word, character, sentence and paragraph counts always cover the whole text.
