Two dates, two different correct answers. The calendar difference is years, months and days - the way a person counts. The total is a plain number of days, weeks or hours. From 31 January to 1 March is "1 month and 1 day" and also "29 days" in a leap year, and both are true.
Months are not all the same length, which is why the two numbers do not convert into each other. A tool that shows one and calls it the other is wrong about something people check, so this one shows both, labelled.
The calendar figure is guaranteed consistent with adding: take the start date, add the years, months and days reported, and you land on the end date exactly. That is tested against tens of thousands of date pairs.
