Percentage calculator
The three questions people actually mean by "percentage": what is X% of Y, X is what percent of Y, and how much did a value change.
How this is calculated
Three questions, one form. What is X% of Y (15% of 240 is 36). X is what percent of Y (36 is 15% of 240). And how much did a value change from one number to another, which is the one people get wrong.
Percentage change measures against the STARTING value, which is why it is asymmetric: 50 to 75 is a 50% increase, and 75 back to 50 is a 33.33% decrease. That is not an error, it is what the measure means, and the calculator shows the direction alongside the number so it cannot be misread.
Every figure is computed in exact decimal arithmetic rather than floating point, and rounded once, at the end. The formula is shown under each answer.
